Little jaunt to Long Beach
Well, I’m off to the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health and Fitness Summit in Long Beach, CA. Maybe you’ll get some information posted while I’m up there, maybe not. Either way-
HAVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY, ACTIVE, AND SAFE WEEK.
Until next time, stay fit and have fun doing it.

Food and Health
Diet: noun; “the usual food and drink consumed by an organism (person or animal)”
Just to clarify. Diet does not mean starving yourself to death, or buying the hottest new self-help book at Barnes and Noble hoping to lose 20 pounds in 10 days. Your diet is simply the foods that you consume.
I’m not a registered dietician, or a nutritionist, just a personal trainer and kinesiology major, so I’m not giving any dietary prescriptions, just a friendly reminder that part of a healthy lifestyle includes not only exercise and physical activity, but nutrition as well. So I’m directing you to websites that can provide some guidance in this area.
If you only go to one, this is the one:
My Pyramid Tracker (the USDA’s interactive website all about the new food guide pyramid, and you can even track your own eating habits to see where you fall)
This is one of my personal favorites, because it’s a cause that I whole-heartedly support, and this organization in particular. If you want more information on trans fats, just ask me. I have a plethora of information and wrote a research paper on America’s trans fat problem for one of my college classes. Ban Trans Fats: The Campaign to Ban Partially Hydrogenated Oils
Raw and Vegan Resources:
I’ve been raised as a vegetarian and even though I’m now an adult, I still embrace that lifestyle. For those of you not used to it these links will seem, well, strange. Just something to think about.
RawFoodGuru: The Raw Food Diet. I think raw food is great. But, it’s not for everyone, that’s for sure. And it’s expensive.
Living and Raw Foods. This is just a very large collection of information. Some good, some…ehhhh
Healthy People 2010. Another government website. So much more than just food. It’s a 10 year plan to make American healthier. So much good information. A MUST for everyone.
More to come, not to worry.

Links to Professional and Certification Resources
Now, until I actually have free time to update my site properly, educate yourself. (NOTE: just because I am posting a link to a site that I found a good, fact-based article, does not mean that I endorse any of these sites- except the professional organizations of course. Use your own judgement and know what is fact and what is fiction.)
Professional Resources:
-ACSM
-IDEA Health & Fitness Association
-AFFA
-NSCA
-American Society of Exercise Physiologists
There’s more of course, but this is good for now.
